PANAJI: In a gripping encounter at the 18th All Goa Rebello Pandal Football Tournament, Micon Warriors Agalli triumphed over Setting Boys Areal 4-3 via a tiebreaker, advancing to the quarterfinals. The match, held at the St. Rita Church ground in Maina Curtorim, concluded in a 0-0 draw after regular time, leading to the decisive penalty shootout.
Both teams showcased attacking football throughout the match. In the first half, Hanshlem of Areal missed a clear opportunity, shooting wide with only the goalkeeper to beat. Micon Warriors’ James struck the crossbar with a powerful shot, highlighting the intensity of the game. The second half saw continued efforts from both sides; Ashley of Areal was denied by Micon Warriors’ goalkeeper Mohammed, who made a crucial save. Micon Warriors’ Jayson also had a chance but his attempt was comfortably gathered by Areal’s goalkeeper.
The tiebreaker saw Micon Warriors convert penalties through James, Jayson, Prajal, and David. Setting Boys Areal responded with successful spot-kicks from Bersal, Ashley, and Adarsh. Mohammed’s exceptional goalkeeping for Micon Warriors, marked by several vital saves, earned him the ‘Man of the Match’ award. The match was officiated by referee Raju.
