Pernem: A local court in Pernem has granted conditional bail to Sanjay Relan and his son Mitesh Relan, both residents of Siolim and originally from Delhi, in connection with the alleged assault on Sachin Dhawaskar, Secretary of the Village Panchayat, Morjim.
The incident took place on August 7 at the Block Development Office (BDO) in Pernem during the hearing of an RTI appeal. According to police, the accused allegedly abused, threatened, and physically assaulted Dhawaskar. They are also accused of causing damage to government property estimated at ₹3,000.
Police registered the case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act. The charges include issuing threats to kill, attacking with a steel water bottle, and inflicting biting injuries.
The duo was arrested on the night of the incident and produced before the court the next day. The Pernem court granted them bail on a personal bond and surety of ₹25,000 each, subject to certain conditions.
The case has triggered widespread public outrage, particularly on social media, over the assault on a government official and the destruction of public property.
