PERNEM: Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Government College and Research Centre, Pernem, organized a six-day Student Induction Program for first-year students from July 7 to July 12, focusing on the theme “Universal Human Values.” The program was designed to orient students to the institutional environment, academic framework, and essential values necessary for their holistic development. A total of 320 students participated in the initiative, which featured a series of insightful sessions conducted by experienced faculty members.
The induction program began with an address by Principal Prof. Juao Costa, who welcomed the students and outlined important aspects of college life, including attendance, discipline, punctuality, examinations, physical facilities, and co-curricular activities. This was followed by thematic sessions that explored various dimensions of personal and emotional growth.
Dr. Roshan Usapkar, Assistant Professor of Commerce, delivered a session on “Student Aspirations and Family Expectations,” highlighting the need to align personal goals with family values and the importance of gratitude. Mr. Adrel Gomes, Assistant Professor of Geography, conducted sessions on “Competition, Cooperation, and Excellence” as well as “Self and Body,” encouraging students to understand the harmony between mind and body. Ms. Sanchana Mandrekar, Assistant Professor of Economics, focused on “Peer Pressure and Anger Management,” while also underlining the significance of trust and respect in relationships.
Beyond value education, students were also introduced to essential academic and support systems. Mr. Vishnu Vete, Assistant Professor of Marathi, explained the examination system; Vice Principal Dr. Lucy James discussed discipline; Dr. Rohit Phalgaonkar briefed students on college facilities. Sessions were also held on NSS by Mr. Myron Pereira, NCC by Capt. Sam Braganza, library usage by Ms. Harsha Naik, and the importance of counseling by Ms. Sushma Kauthankar.
The comprehensive induction program played a key role in guiding students through the early days of their academic journey, equipping them not only with institutional knowledge but also with life skills and ethical grounding. It reinforced the college’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared to face academic and social challenges with confidence and integrity.
