PERNEM: Former MLA Manohar ‘Babu’ Ajgaonkar visited the Pernem police station and met with PI Sachin Lokre in connection with the hit-and-run murder case of Devidas Konadkar.
“Konadkar was our party worker. It’s unfortunate that migrants killed our son of the soil. The taxi owners with help of their taxi union caught the accused involved in the murder case,” he said, adding that, with development projects coming up in Pernem, migrants have started coming to the taluka.
“I request Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to look into the matter and give justice to the family,” he said, while also requesting Pernem police to increase patrolling.
Reports suggest that on the fateful night of May 12, 2024, around 9:00 PM, the accused individuals had negligently parked their rickshaw in a hazardous position, obstructing traffic flow on a curved road. Devidas, present at the scene, questioned the driver and occupant of the goods carrier rickshaw.
This confrontation escalated, leading to the accused chasing Devidas, who attempted to leave the spot on his Yamaha Fascino Scooter (registration number GA 11 F 3368).
Further investigations unveiled a chilling sequence of events where the accused pursued Devidas on their goods carrier rickshaw, deliberately ramming into his scooter at Dadachiwadi, Dhargal Pernem. The impact resulted in Devidas being dragged for a distance before the assailants fled the scene.
The Pernem Police swiftly apprehended the driver of the goods carrier rickshaw, identified as Mohit Kumar, aged 19, hailing from Vill-Badshapur Pachgai, Tehsil-Khurja, Dist-Buland Shehar, Uttar Pradesh. His co-occupant, Abhishek Kumar, aged 20, also from the same village and district, was also arrested. Both individuals have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime.
