PERNEM: Pernem Police have achieved yet another significant breakthrough in a house burglary case registered at Pernem Police Station vide Crime No. 02/2026 under Sections 331(3) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), further tightening the noose around an organised day house-breaking network operating in North Goa.
The case was registered on the complaint of Mrs Nilima w/o Gopal Gawde (56 years), resident of H. No. 182, Gaonkarwada, Tuem, Pernem, who reported that on 05.02.2025, between 9.00 am and 5.30 pm, unknown persons broke open the main door lock of her residence and stole a gold mangalsutra weighing approximately 42 grams, valued at around ₹4.50 lakh, from a cupboard in the bedroom.
Based on sustained technical inputs, ground intelligence and follow-up of earlier arrests, Pernem Police arrested Tejesh Gurav (28), son of Gangaram Gurav, resident of c/o Baban Sawal Desai, H. No. 255/33, Ameiwada, Malpem, Virnoda, Pernem, and native of Rajapur, Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra, on 07.01.2026 at 10.13 pm. All Supreme Court guidelines were strictly followed during the arrest.
Investigation revealed that the arrested accused is a close associate of prime accused Rohan Mahadev Padwal, who along with Jagannath @ Ketan Sanjay Bagkar, was earlier arrested in Pernem PS Crime No. 62/2025. The accused are professional offenders involved in a series of day house-breaking and theft cases across Pernem, Dhargal, Virnoda, Tuem and Korgao areas.
In the connected case, police have already recovered gold and silver ornaments worth approximately ₹17,56,360. During the course of the investigation in various cases, police have so far recovered and seized gold ornaments worth approximately ₹53,68,460.
The overall recovery of stolen gold ornaments in the burglary network now stands at approximately ₹71,24,820, and further investigation is still in progress.
The arrested accused has been produced before the Hon’ble JMFC, Pernem, and police custody has been sought for further custodial interrogation to trace remaining stolen property and identify other members of the burglary chain.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Tukaram Chodankar under the supervision of PI Pernem Police Station Shri Nitin Halarnkar, SDPO Pernem Shri Salim Shaikh, and under the overall supervision of SP North District, Porvorim Harishchandra Madkaikar.
