Panaji: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Tuesday officially launched the second phase of its campaign, “Safety First: Empowering Women and Protecting Children”, at the hands of Minister for Transport, Mauvin Godinho, in the presence of Mayor Shri Rohit Monserrate.
The event saw participation from several dignitaries including Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Naik, KTC General Manager Mahendra Pednekar, former Mayor Vithal Chopdekar, PI of Panjim Police Station Vijaykumar Chodankar, LPSI Smt. Rupali Govekar from the Women Police Station, SCAN-Goa Director Smt. Audrey Pinto, Team SCAN, and student volunteers from Don Bosco College.
Launched in partnership with the Goa Police and SCAN-Goa, a voluntary organization, the campaign aims to educate, empower, and engage the public to create a safer environment for women and children in Goa. It focuses on building community involvement to foster collective responsibility for safety.
The initiative has also partnered with several key stakeholders, including the Transport Department, Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd. (KTC), Private Bus Associations, and autorickshaw and taxi driver associations.
As part of the awareness drive, visually impactful posters and stickers have been affixed to KTC buses, private buses, taxis, autorickshaws, and pilot motorbikes. These visuals contain critical information on safety laws and helpline numbers, and address issues such as stalking, cybercrime, eve-teasing, sexual harassment, domestic violence, child sexual abuse, begging, child marriage, and child labour.
The first phase of the campaign had commenced with hoardings installed at key locations such as the Panjim bus stand, Miramar, local markets, Casino Road, and 18 June Road. The campaign also includes community engagement events such as street plays, workshops, training sessions, and outreach programs across Goa.
Residents are encouraged to participate by sharing images of the campaign posters and stickers on social media using hashtags #SafetyFirst, #CCP, #GoaPolice, and #SCAN-Goa to help amplify the message and promote a culture of safety and mutual respect.
“Every individual deserves to feel safe and secure. This campaign is our commitment to making that vision a reality,” said SCAN-Goa Director Audrey Pinto, urging citizens to spread awareness about emergency helpline numbers and play an active role in ensuring safer communities
