CANACONA: “Physically and mentally strong youth are the foundation of a prosperous nation,” said Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Ramesh Tawadkar, speaking at the valedictory function of a 15-day Diet and Fitness Training Camp held at Shri Balaram Residential School, Amone, Poinguinim.
The camp was jointly organised by Shri Balaram Education Society, the Sports Authority of Goa, and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. It aimed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and nutritional awareness among students. Over the 15 days, participants engaged in yoga sessions, fitness workouts, diet education, motivational talks, and group discussions, fostering a holistic approach to health and discipline in line with the Fit India initiative.
Marking the occasion on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Tawadkar said, “Sardar Patel’s vision of unity, discipline, and determination continues to inspire generations. Unity and strength are the cornerstones of nation-building.”
He lauded Shri Balaram Shikshan Sanstha for its consistent efforts to nurture overall student development. “This camp not only builds physical endurance but also strengthens the mind. When our youth care for their health, they become the true strength of the nation. A healthy body and mind are key to social transformation,” Tawadkar added.
The Minister further praised institutions that balance academics, sports, and health education, noting their vital role in shaping responsible citizens.
Participants shared their experiences, saying the camp helped them develop discipline, confidence, and a deeper understanding of health and fitness.
Among those present were Sanguem ZP Member Suresh Kepekar, Poinguinim Sarpanch and Institution Manager Savita Tawadkar, Khotigao Sarpanch Vrinda Velip, Founder Member Rajendra Velip, Treasurer Ganesh Velip, and Ashok Gaonkar.
The programme was compered by Vandana Velip, with a welcome address by Dhananjay Velip and a vote of thanks proposed by Kesar Gaonkar.
