VERNA: A tragic road accident near Cabral petrol pump, Verna, on Tuesday evening claimed the life of a young woman after a Kadamba Electric Bus allegedly rammed into an Activa scooter from behind.
According to a state complaint lodged by Head Constable Siddesh Dessai, the accident occurred on October 7, 2025, at around 5:55 pm, when accused driver Gajanan Bhandari, resident of Netravali, Sanguem, was proceeding from Panjim towards Margao and allegedly drove the EV Kadamba bus in a rash and negligent manner.
On reaching the spot near Cabral petrol pump, the bus collided with an Activa scooter that was travelling in the same direction. The impact caused the rider, Nitikesh Pujari of Dabolim, Vasco, and his pillion rider, Mizba Inus Beg of Curchorem, to fall onto the road. Both sustained serious injuries, and Mizba later succumbed to her injuries.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama, and the body was referred for post-mortem examination. The Police Surgeon certified the cause of death as “damage to vital organs of the thoracic cavity.” The deceased’s body was later handed over to her family for final rites.
A case of rash and negligent driving causing death has been registered against the bus driver. Further investigation is being carried out by LPSI Pramila Fernandes of Verna Police Station.
