PORVORIM: A tragic accident claimed the life of a 32-year-old pillion rider after being run over by a speeding truck near Sairam Garage at Tisk, Porvorim.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Sunny Narvekar, resident of Kanolkar Wada, Nanoda, Latambarcem, was riding pillion on a red Yamaha Fascino scooter (GA-03-BD-2845) along with his friend Shubham when the two skidded and fell while proceeding towards Mapusa via NH-66 at around 10.30 am on September 18.
At that moment, a six-wheeler TATA truck, brown in colour and covered with a blue tarpaulin with “Ganpati Road Carrier” written on it, approached at high speed, failed to maintain distance and ran over Sunny. The truck driver allegedly fled the scene without offering medical assistance or informing the police.
Sunny sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to GMC Bambolim, where he was declared brought dead.
Porvorim Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the unidentified truck driver, who is absconding. Further investigation is underway.
