Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-day visit to his home state Gujarat on Sunday, marking his first trip to the state following Operation Sindoor. During this visit, he will launch and inaugurate multiple infrastructure and development projects with a cumulative worth of ₹82,000 crore.
On Monday, PM Modi is set to inaugurate two new train services via video conferencing from Dahod—the Sabarmati-Veraval Vande Bharat Express and the Valsad-Dahod Express. According to Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of the Railway Board, the new trains will enhance regional connectivity and benefit both commuters and pilgrims, especially those visiting the Somnath temple. The Sabarmati-Veraval Vande Bharat Express will run six days a week (excluding Thursdays) and feature eight coaches. The Valsad-Dahod Express, with 17 coaches, will operate daily, covering a 346-kilometre route and halting at 12 stations, including Surat, Bharuch, and Vadodara.
In Dahod, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Loco Manufacturing Shop-Rolling Stock Workshop and flag off the first electric locomotive built under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, with the plant developed at a cost exceeding ₹21,000 crore. He will address the public in Kharod and lay the foundation stones for railway and infrastructure projects totaling ₹24,000 crore. Additionally, he will inaugurate four drinking water improvement schemes worth ₹181 crore, which will deliver 100 litres per capita per day to a population of 4.62 lakh across 193 villages and one town in Mahisagar and Dahod districts.
Following the Dahod visit, PM Modi will travel to Bhuj, where he will launch further development initiatives worth over ₹53,000 crore. These include key infrastructure projects such as solar power plants, road construction, power transmission systems, and upgrades to Kandla Port. The projects will benefit several districts including Kutch, Jamnagar, Amreli, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Ahmedabad, Tapi, and Mahisagar.
In the evening, PM Modi will lead a three-kilometre-long roadshow from Ahmedabad Airport to Indira Bridge, where over 50,000 BJP workers and citizens are expected to greet him. He will then stay overnight at the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar.
On May 27, the Prime Minister will continue his engagements in Gandhinagar, holding a two-kilometre roadshow in the morning, attended by more than 30,000 BJP workers. Later, at Mahatma Mandir, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth ₹5,536 crore. These include the inauguration of 22,055 houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at a cost of ₹1,006 crore and the foundation laying of Phase-3 of the Sabarmati Riverfront, to be developed at a cost of ₹1,000 crore. He will also distribute ₹3,300 crore in financial aid to urban local bodies under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana.
The Prime Minister’s visit highlights a major push for infrastructure growth, regional connectivity, and urban development across Gujarat.
