New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani on Wednesday to express his deep concern over the recent Israeli attacks in Doha, condemning the violation of Qatar’s sovereignty.
In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “Spoke with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and expressed deep concern at the attacks in Doha. India condemns the violation of the sovereignty of the brotherly State of Qatar. We support resolution of issues through dialogue and diplomacy, and avoiding escalation. India stands firmly in support of peace and stability in the region, and against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
The conversation came in the wake of airstrikes by Israel in Doha on Tuesday, which raised security concerns across the Gulf region. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) noted that Modi appreciated Qatar’s role in promoting peace, particularly its mediation efforts in Gaza to secure ceasefire agreements and the release of hostages.
The PMO further stated, “Sheikh Tamim thanked Prime Minister Modi for the expression of solidarity with the people and the State of Qatar. The two leaders also expressed satisfaction at the sustained progress in the India-Qatar Strategic Partnership and reiterated their commitment to advance bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. They agreed to remain in close touch.”
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that regional security must not be compromised. The MEA urged restraint and diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
The recent conversation builds on the strong ties between the two nations. In February this year, Emir Sheikh Tamim visited India on a State Visit at the invitation of PM Modi. The visit, which included senior ministers, officials, and business leaders, saw both countries reaffirm their historic trade links, people-to-people connections, and mutual cooperation. During the visit, they signed the Agreement on the Establishment of Bilateral Strategic Partnership, highlighting a shared commitment to expand collaboration across multiple sectors.
The exchange between the two leaders underscores India’s continued support for peace, stability, and dialogue in the region while reinforcing its partnership with Qatar.
