New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded India’s record-breaking performance at the World Para Athletics Championships, calling it a historic achievement that will inspire generations of young athletes.
India registered its best-ever showing at the event, finishing with 22 medals six gold, nine silver, and seven bronze surpassing the previous record of 17 medals set at the 2024 edition in Kobe, Japan.
Taking to social media, the Prime Minister congratulated the entire contingent for their remarkable performance. “A historic performance by our para-athletes! This year’s World Para Athletics Championships have been truly special. The Indian team delivered its best-ever performance, winning 22 medals, including six gold. Congratulations to all our athletes,” he wrote.
Modi said the success of India’s para-athletes would motivate many across the country to pursue sports with determination and pride. “Their achievements will inspire countless people. I am proud of every member of our team and wish them continued success in their future endeavours,” he added.
The 2025 World Para Athletics Championships were held in New Delhi, marking the first time India hosted the prestigious event. Over 2,200 athletes from more than 100 countries competed across 186 medal events.
Expressing gratitude to the international participants, Modi said, “Hosting the tournament in Delhi has been an honour for India. We are thankful to the athletes and support staff from nearly 100 nations who made this championship memorable.”
India’s record medal tally reflects the country’s growing dominance and commitment to para sports on the global stage.
