New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and several national leaders on Sunday extended their greetings to the people of India on the occasion of Chhath Puja, celebrating it as a symbol of faith, gratitude, and harmony between humanity and nature.
In the 127th episode of his radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Modi described Chhath as a festival that beautifully unites culture, nature, and society. He said that the sight of devotees from all backgrounds gathering at ghats to offer prayers to the Sun God represents the essence of India’s social harmony. “The Mahaparva of Chhath reflects the deep unity between culture, nature, and society. Every section of society comes together at the ghats. This is the most beautiful example of India’s social unity,” he said.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the growing enthusiasm for Swadeshi products during the ongoing GST Bachat Utsav, noting a significant rise in the purchase of locally made goods. He appreciated citizens for responding positively to his earlier appeal to reduce edible oil consumption by 10 percent.
President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her greetings, calling Chhath Puja a festival that fosters respect for nature and promotes peace and prosperity. In her message, she said the celebration offers a sacred opportunity to worship the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, inspiring people towards gratitude and environmental conservation.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah wished the people a joyous and prosperous festival, while Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the devotion and discipline displayed by women devotees as a reflection of India’s eternal cultural values. The Indian National Congress too shared greetings, expressing hope that Chhathi Maiya blesses every household with happiness and harmony.
Chhath Puja, celebrated this year from October 25 to 28, is a four-day festival marked by fasting, ritual bathing, and offerings to the setting and rising sun. Devotees express gratitude for the Sun God’s life-giving energy, reaffirming India’s enduring traditions of faith, purity, and devotion.
