New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a strong attack on the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) during an election rally in Bihar, accusing the Opposition of disrespecting Chhathi Maiya, a deity deeply revered across the state. He said that while his government has worked to showcase Bihar’s rich cultural traditions globally, the Opposition has chosen to “mock the faith” of millions.
Modi said that Chhath, which is now celebrated across the world, symbolizes devotion, sacrifice, and purity. “Your son, Modi, is taking the glory of Chhathi Maiya to every corner of the world. But these Congress and RJD leaders are insulting the same deity worshipped by our mothers and sisters,” he told the gathering.
Referring to the controversy over recent remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Modi said such comments amounted to an insult to the faith of those who observe the sacred fasts of Chhath. He urged the people of Bihar to respond to what he described as the Opposition’s disrespect for their traditions. “Can anyone insult Chhathi Maiya just for political gain? Will the mothers who perform the nirjala upvaas accept this? Bihar will never forgive those who show contempt for our beliefs,” he said.
The Prime Minister accused the Opposition of belittling women’s devotion, adding that their comments reflect a lack of respect for the values that define Bihar’s culture. “For generations to come, people will remember this insult. Bihar is the land of pride and self-respect, and its people will not tolerate such mockery,” he said.
Ending his address with a sharp attack on the RJD, Modi said the party’s record in governance could be summed up in five words gun, brutality, bitterness, misrule, and corruption calling it the hallmark of the “jungle raj” era.
