Prayagraj:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a significant spiritual journey to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, where he took a holy dip at the revered Triveni Sangam. This sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers was the backdrop for PM Modi’s ritual bath, a gesture that resonated deeply with the millions of devotees gathered at the festival.
Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, PM Modi arrived in Prayagraj at around 10:05 AM and proceeded to the DPS Helipad before making his way to Arail Ghat. From there, he took a boat to the Maha Kumbh site, where he performed the holy dip during the auspicious Puny Kaal, a time considered highly sacred in Hindu tradition.
Dressed in track pants and a saffron jacket, with a ‘rudrakash mala’ in hand, PM Modi offered prayers to Goddess Ganga, a moment that was both personal and symbolic of his commitment to India’s spiritual heritage. This visit marked his second significant engagement with the Maha Kumbh Mela, following his earlier visit on December 13, 2024, when he inaugurated 167 development projects worth Rs 5,500 crore aimed at enhancing connectivity and amenities in the region.
The choice of February 5 for PM Modi’s holy dip was not coincidental; it coincided with Magh Ashtami, a day of great spiritual significance in the Hindu calendar, known for its emphasis on penance, devotion, and charitable acts. This date added an extra layer of importance to the Prime Minister’s visit, which was met with immense enthusiasm from the devotees.
Security was heightened in the area, with the National Security Guard (NSG), magistrates, and a substantial police force, including PAC and RAF personnel, deployed to ensure the Prime Minister’s safety. The areas PM Modi was to visit were thoroughly secured, and devotees were subjected to rigorous checks.
Besides CM Yogi Adityanath, several state ministers were also present to accompany the Prime Minister. Mela officer Vijay Kiran Anand confirmed that all preparations for PM Modi’s program had been completed, ensuring a smooth and secure experience for the dignitary.
PM Modi’s visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela is part of his ongoing efforts to promote and preserve India’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage. His previous visit to the 2019 Kumbh Mela, where he took a holy dip and washed the feet of sanitation workers, underscored his commitment to these values.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, has already seen over 38 crore pilgrims since its inception, with numbers expected to soar even higher as the festival continues.
