New Delhi: As West Bengal gears up for the 2026 assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instructed BJP MPs from the state to ensure that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive remains straightforward and transparent. Emphasising efficiency, the Prime Minister stressed that the process should focus solely on including eligible voters and removing those who are ineligible, avoiding unnecessary complications.
During the meeting, PM Modi urged MPs to stay focused on party priorities and maintain confidence while preparing for the high-stakes polls. Without naming the Trinamool Congress or Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directly, he highlighted the party’s growth in the state—from three MLAs in 2011 to a much stronger presence in 2016—and encouraged MPs to continue building on this momentum. “We have to work hard and make sure we win this election in Bengal,” he said, praising their efforts so far.
The Prime Minister also sought feedback on local issues, including the recent attack on MP Khagen Murmu, underlining the importance of staying connected with constituents and understanding ground realities. He stressed that effective outreach and responsive leadership are crucial for electoral success.
The delegation included state president Shamik Bhattacharya, Union Ministers Shantanu Thakur and Sukanta Majumdar. Discussions centred on election preparedness and strategies to mobilise support across the state.
With Mamata Banerjee seeking a fourth consecutive term, the BJP has taken major organisational steps to strengthen its position. Election responsibilities have been assigned to Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, reflecting the party’s serious intent to expand its presence in West Bengal.
As the 2026 polls approach, PM Modi’s message to the Bengal BJP remains clear: focus on party strengths, maintain organisational discipline, and continue building momentum to challenge the TMC effectively.
