New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Adampur Air Force base in Punjab on Tuesday, just days after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire following heightened cross-border tensions. His visit was aimed at acknowledging the bravery and resilience of the armed forces in the wake of recent hostilities.
Adampur was among the strategic airbases targeted by Pakistan during the night of May 9 and 10, in retaliation to India’s precision counter-terror operation, Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7. Pakistan had claimed that its hypersonic missiles, launched from JF-17 fighter jets, destroyed India’s S-400 air defence system stationed at Adampur — a claim that Indian officials have categorically denied.
The Prime Minister’s visit comes a day after he publicly lauded the Indian armed forces for their decisive execution of Operation Sindoor. The operation was a direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives and shocked the nation.
During his national address, PM Modi praised the armed forces for their exceptional courage and commitment in achieving the mission’s goals, asserting that India’s new doctrine against terrorism will not tolerate threats under the guise of nuclear blackmail.
At Adampur, PM Modi interacted with air force personnel, commending them for their vigilance and readiness in defending the nation during a critical period. His visit served as a morale booster for the troops and a symbolic affirmation of India’s resolve to safeguard its sovereignty at all costs.
