New Delhi, May 7 (News Agency) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has named India’s counterattack on terror bases in Pakistan “Operation Sindoor” in retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The name holds significant symbolism, as “sindoor” (vermilion) is a traditional symbol of marriage worn by Hindu women, reflecting the tragedy where many women lost their husbands in front of their families.
The coordinated air strikes, targeting terror-linked sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, followed the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, where tourists were brutally executed after being asked about their religion. The operation’s emblem features an “O” in “Sindoor” shaped like a bowl of vermilion, with some spilled, symbolizing the loss of life partners for 25 women.
The brutal attack, which targeted innocent civilians, has sparked national outrage. Widows of the victims, including Himanshi Narwal and Pallavi Rao, expressed gratitude for the government’s action. “This is the real tribute to my husband,” said Aishanya, widow of Shubham Dwivedi.
PM Modi had vowed to hold the perpetrators accountable, asserting, “India will track and punish every terrorist and their backers. Terrorism will not go unpunished.”
