PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to complete the pending work on Ponda Market Complex by spending Rs 1.43 crore.
The project was left incomplete as few shop vendors have challenged and approached the Court.
Following this, the contractor had kept the work of the Market Project at the disputed part challenged in Court.
PMC Chairperson Shantaram Colvekar said the issue was resolved as the vendors had compromised after PMC rehabilitated them with alternative shops.
He said the pending work would be completed soon, and the project would be operational soon.
He said already lift has been installed, and many shops are operating in Ponda Market Complex.
It may be recalled that PMC had constructed the new Ponda Market Complex by costing around Rs 38 crores in 2011, though it was inaugurated, it turned white elephant. Except for business by some shops, most of the shops remained non-functional.
Further, the work on it was also pending, which the PMC now decided to complete.
Further, now most of the shops auctioned PMC now hopes to generate revenue.
The PMC had also got approval from DMA for setting up a Biodegradable waste disposal Project by costing Rs 65 lakhs, which would treat PMC garbage and help treat garbage of surrounding panchayats, said Chairperson
