CANACONA: Polem Cricket Club has demanded 40000 sqm of land from Loliem-Polem Communidade for the construction of a well-equipped cricket stadium in Canacona.
The office bearers of Polem Cricket Club affiliated to Goa Cricket Association Deepak Tuko Pagi and Mukesh Krishna Naik informed the club has submitted the request to Loliem-Polem Communidade that suitable may be allotted to the Club or Goa Cricket Association to construct the Cricket Stadium in Canacona.
Goa Cricket Association (GCA) will provide the needed financial and all-round support for the construction of a sports ground here, and we have accordingly discussed this with the office bearers of the Goa Cricket Association’, wrote Polem Cricket Club (PCC) to Loliem-Polem Communidade.
For constructing a Cricket Stadium in Canacona, the only issue that arises being the availability of suitable land, if the Loliem-Polem Communided provides the land on lease by completing all the required formalities to acquire about 40,000 sq. m. of land, a good sports ground/Cricket Stadium will be available to the Sports/Cricket lovers in the Loliem-Polem Panchayat area and the whole of Canacona taluka, PCC wrote to the Communidade.
PCC has requested the Loliem-Polem Village panchayat to pass a resolution in this regard and submit the same to the village communidade.
When contacted Loliem – Polem Communidade President Vishwanath Warik confirmed the receipt of request letter from Polem Cricket Club for land admeasuring 40,000 sq m to set up a cricket stadium in the village.
Meanwhile, the PCC request for land assumes significance on two counts . the first being Loliem-Polem communidade has recently approved some five files to allottee 1 lakh sq m of land to a limited company where Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar is one of the five Directors to set up Multi Food processing Units, besides Banana plantations in the village of Loliem –Polem.
The second – Recently in a public function besides BCCI General Secretary Rohan Desai, the office bearers of GCA has appealed to provide them land and GCA will give a magnificent Cricket Stadium to Canacona.
