XELDEM: Tensions flared in the early hours of Saturday when a group of 6–7 individuals reportedly assaulted civilians and police personnel near Shivnagar Tanki in Xeldem. The Quepem Police have filed two separate cases in connection with the incident and launched a search operation to trace those involved.
The Quepem Police Control Room received a call around 2:00 AM reporting a brawl in the area. A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival around 2:30 AM, the situation escalated when one of the accused, identified as Joyson Fernandes, allegedly slapped a police driver. Other members of the group are accused of using abusive language and attempting to obstruct the police from performing their duties.
Earlier, before the police arrived, two individuals — Brian Costa and Felix Fernandes — were allegedly beaten by the same group.
Following the incident, police registered two separate FIRs — one for the assault on the civilians and another for obstructing and attacking public servants on duty. The accused include Joyson Fernandes and six others who are yet to be identified.
Police said a manhunt is underway to locate and apprehend all individuals involved.
