TALEIGAO: Social activist Cecille Lee Rodrigues has filed a serious criminal complaint against MLA Jennifer Monserrate, Sydney Barreto, and several others, alleging assault, intimidation, and public endangerment linked to illegal construction activities at the Anantam project site.
According to the complaint submitted to local police authorities, Rodrigues claims she and others were assaulted and threatened by Monserrate and Barreto while attempting to raise concerns about a recent mudslide.
The mudslide, allegedly caused by unregulated and unauthorized construction at the Anantam site, endangered nearby residents and resulted in injuries to Francis Coelho, who was reportedly present during the incident.
Rodrigues is calling for the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Monserrate and Barreto under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges of assault, criminal intimidation, and outraging the modesty of a woman.
She has also requested the arrest of the accused and immediate collection of evidence from the site.
Citing established legal precedents that mandate the registration of FIRs in such cases, Rodrigues has warned of legal action if the police fail to act promptly.
The complaint adds to growing public concern over the environmental and safety risks posed by unchecked real estate development in Goa. Authorities have yet to issue a formal response.
