PANAJI/BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Police Station has arrested one individual for involvement in illegal gambling activities, marking the latest operation in the ongoing crackdown on such practices in Goa.
On the evening of July 14, 2025, at around 9:30 PM, *Shri Sakharam Raut*, HC-5865, received a complaint detailing the arrest of 27-year-old Roshan s/o Bhima Chauhan. The accused, a resident of Sarvan, Bicholim, was caught red-handed while accepting money bets from members of the public at the Bicholim Market. Police seized a sum of Rs. 890 in various denominations, along with other gambling-related articles. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Meanwhile, the very next day, on July 15, 2025, at 4:32 PM, the Panaji Police arrested Chand Basha Mujawar, a 46-year-old resident of Dona Paula, Tiswadi. He was caught in the act of accepting bets on numerical figures from the public near Navnath Super Market, Dona Paula. Authorities seized Rs. 1,100 in cash along with additional gambling paraphernalia.
Mujawar was placed under arrest but was released within hours at 4:35 PM the same day. The investigation is being handled by HC B. No. HC 5066 of Panaji Police Station.
These arrests are part of a broader effort to combat illegal gambling activities that have been a persistent issue in several parts of the state. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any such illegal activities.
