CALANGUTE: In a major drive to ensure the safety and comfort of tourists ahead of the festive season, the Calangute Police Station has intensified its campaign against touts and illegal agents operating in the coastal belt.
As part of the operation, police booked two accused persons under Section 34 of the Indian Police Act and apprehended 13 touts/illegal agents engaged in harassing or misleading tourists for monetary gain.
According to police, those arrested have been identified as Ganesh Laxman Rathod (24), Parshuram Allappa Kharbare (27), Bharish Assamuddin Shah (18), Gaurab Rakesh Shakya (23), Mohamed Younis Khan (18), Amir Istiger Hussain (25), Aman Nafish Ahmad (19), Sultan Alam Firoz Ali (34), Shadali Fadrul Ali (24), Shan Alam Sahayak Ali (32), Tapan Kumar Duryadhan Samal (32), Asish Rameshchandra Kumar (27), and Ranjeet Kumar Ramashankar Kumar (30).
All 13 accused were produced before the SDM Mapusa and have been remanded to three days’ judicial custody.
Calangute Police stated that the drive is part of their ongoing efforts to maintain law and order and to safeguard tourists from illegal activities ahead of the New Year’s celebrations.
The initiative aims to ensure that visitors enjoy their stay without nuisance or exploitation.
Police have also appealed to tourists to report any instances of touting or illegal activities to the authorities, assuring strict action against offenders.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of PI Paresh Naik, with overall guidance from SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Rahul Gupta, IPS.
