MARGAO: In a major corruption bust, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the Goa Police raided the Konkan Railway (KR) police station after allegations of bribery surfaced.
During the operation, ACB officials recovered Rs 25,000 from a police officer’s cabin.
According to ACB sources, officers at the KR police station allegedly summoned a meat trader from Karnataka after seizing a consignment of beef.
They reportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, claiming they had evidence linking the trader to the shipment.
The officers told the trader that they would release him and allow him to continue his business if he paid the sum, along with an additional Rs 25,000 per month as protection money.
When the trader refused to comply, the officers reportedly threatened to arrest him.
Distressed, the trader contacted senior officials in Panaji and relayed the details of the extortion attempt.
After negotiations, the trader agreed to pay the Rs 25,000 monthly protection fee.
A trap was set, and the trader later paid the amount at the KR police station. The ACB then raided the station, recovering the money from a senior officer’s cabin.
At the time of the raid, both the constable and the Police Inspector (PI) involved in the extortion were being interrogated. Investigations are ongoing.
