PORVORIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today admitted that there is a shortage of Doctors and allied staff in Goa while stating the urgent need for tweaking the policy to overcome the shortage.
Ruling and Opposition MLAs requested the strengthening of Community Health Centers (CHCs) across Goa.
“I agree on the fact that doctors, nurses and other staff are deficient; will fill up the positions on a contractual basis after cabinet approval, We are not getting doctors in Goa, hence there’s a need to bring them from other states,” said Vishwajit.
Rane also Goa is the only state where all the medicines are being given for free to every individual under DDSSY.
“My difficulty is that the decisions to add or create facilities have to be taken only after comprehensive planning,” he added.

Vishwajit also said that High BP, hypertension, diabetes, and other lifestyle issues are resulting in a rise in kidney diseases and some are genetic cases too.
“Measures being taken with the help of Gol to take precautions,” HM Rane added.
“It is very difficult to get experts. There is a need to frame a policy which attracts doctors. If infrastructure is created and they are provided required facilities then it is possible that they will come back. They can come back and serve the people of Goa,” he added.
