PANAJI: leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has hit out at the Goa Police and the State government over the arrest of AAP Goa president Amit Palekar.
Calling the arrest as political witch-hunt Yuri said the most primary task of the Crime Branch investigating the horrifying Banastari accident is to gather impeccable evidence to ensure conviction of the accused.
“With the focus of Crime Branch turning to Amit Palekar,
the President of AAP Goa from the start itself it is natural to have doubts on the objectives and outcome of investigations,” he said.
Aleamo said that this should not finally degenerate into political witch-hunting where political agenda of ruling party gets precedence over conviction of the accused.
Palekar was arrested on Thursday afternoon and was released late evening on interim bail.
He was charged for destruction of evidence in the Banastari accident case which killed three persons.
