PONDA: The Amchi Vyapari Sanagatana (Market vendors association) today staged a dharna in front of the PMC Office, demanding demands action against illegal roadside vendors
As the council meeting progressed, the vendors sat outside for two hours until the end of the meeting.
Later they met Ponda MLA and Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, who was present at the council meeting. Ravi Naik assured them that he would try to solve their problems. He assured them that he would call the meeting of those vendors conducting business on the roadside at Shantinagar, near the ADEI office.
Later the vendors association led by Gharu Sawant also met Chairperson Ritesh Naik and complained about eight stalls illegally selling fruits, vegetables, spices etc. and eating their business, due to which the vendors conducting business at designated Ponda Market suffered losses. Ritesh Naik promised to take suitable action.
It may be recalled that last month PMC Chief officer took action against those stalls and demolished them; however, a few days later, the illegal stalls were reconstructed in the same place. This irked vendors, and today staged a protest at PMC today to remove them and shift them to the Market place.
