PONDA: In a significant drug bust, Ponda Police arrested a 54-year-old man from Canacona after seizing 6.314 kg of suspected Ganja valued at approximately Rs 6.30 lakh.
The operation took place on the evening of April 27, below the Borim Bridge in Ponda.
Acting on specific intelligence received through a reliable source, police conducted a narcotics raid between 7:35 PM and 9:00 PM. During a personal search, the accused—identified as Benedito Fernandes, a resident of Ghodkamolem, Poinguinim, Canacona—was found in illegal possession of the greenish dry leafy substance, suspected to be Ganja.
An offence has been registered under Ponda Police Station Crime No. 58/2025 under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The investigation is being led by PSI Anjali Dhulapkar, under the supervision of SDPO Ponda Shri Shivram Vaigankar and overall direction of SP South Goa, Shri Tikam Singh Verma, IPS.
