PONDA: Ponda police late on Saturday night busted a human trafficking racket and rescued a young woman who had been trafficked to Goa and forced into prostitution. The raid was carried out around 11:50 pm at a room in Ganesh Residency, Ponda, following reliable inputs, with the assistance of a decoy customer and an NGO. Police arrested three persons identified as Najim (33) and Jamedar (38), both natives of Puruliya, West Bengal, and Rajesh Goud (49), originally from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and presently residing in Porvorim. The trio were caught red-handed while delivering the victim to the decoy customer. The case has been registered under Ponda Police Station Crime No. 126/2025 for offences under Section 143 r/w 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 4 and 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. All three accused have been arrested and further investigation is underway under PI Vijaynath Kavlekar. Police confirmed that the operation was conducted in adherence to Supreme Court guidelines for handling such sensitive cases.
