PONDA: A resident of Shiroda has been duped of Rs. 3.35 lakh in a cryptocurrency investment scam, according to a complaint lodged at the Ponda Police Station.
The victim, Rajiv Gupta, alleged that from May 29, 2024, to July 15, 2024, he was contacted by two individuals posing as “Janavi” and “Rajesh,” who claimed to be representatives of the Capital Wealth Management Company.
They encouraged Gupta to invest in the crypto market by providing links to a mobile application that promised high returns.
Following their instructions, Gupta invested a total of Rs. 3,90,000/- via UPI payments into the application, trusting the promised returns. However, he received only Rs. 55,000/- as a return on his investment. Despite repeated follow-ups with the accused, Gupta claimed that they failed to provide any further returns or refund the invested amount.
In his complaint, Gupta accused the fraudsters of impersonation and using a communication device to deceive him, resulting in a total loss of Rs. 3,35,000/-.
The case is currently under investigation by PI Vijaynath Kavlekar of Ponda Police Station. Authorities are tracing the identities of the accused, who remain unidentified at this time. The police have urged the public to be cautious of similar investment schemes and report any suspicious activities immediately.
