PONDA: The stage is set for polling in the Ponda Assembly by-election on Thursday, with campaigning coming to a close on Tuesday evening after days of hectic political activity. With the silence period now in force, candidates have shifted focus to booth-level coordination and voter mobilisation within the permissible norms.
The by-poll has turned into a closely watched triangular contest, with the BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party in the fray. The election was necessitated following the vacancy in the constituency, making the outcome politically significant for all major players ahead of future electoral battles.
The ruling BJP is banking on continuity and local support, while the Congress has mounted a strong challenge in a bid to regain the seat. The AAP has also entered the race independently, adding another dimension to the contest and making the outcome less predictable.
During campaigning, candidates focused heavily on local civic concerns raised by residents. Issues such as road conditions, water supply, garbage management, power fluctuations, traffic congestion and healthcare facilities dominated public meetings and door-to-door outreach.
Election authorities have completed arrangements for polling, including deployment of staff, security personnel and distribution of election materials. With preparations in place, voters in Ponda will head to the polling stations on Thursday to decide the outcome of the crucial by-election.
