MOPA: An 86-year-old Portuguese national, Jawaharlal Caramchand, was booked at the Mopa Airport Police Station on Tuesday after an antique pistol was found in his baggage during a routine security screening.
According to a complaint lodged at 16:18 hrs by Prathamesh Ramakant Halarnkar, Shift Incharge for Inline Screening & Security at Mopa International Airport (MIA), the accused was scheduled to travel to London (LWG) on Air India flight A1145, occupying seat number 22G.
During security screening conducted at approximately 11:35 hrs, officials discovered an antique pistol marked “Perfecta Model ‘S’ Made in Germany” in Mr. Caramchand’s baggage bearing tag number 0098844990. The accused reportedly failed to produce a valid firearm license or any official permission from the competent authority to carry the weapon onboard.
Following the incident, Mopa Airport Police registered an offence under Crime No. 21/2025, invoking Section 3 read with Section 25 of the Arms Act. The First Information Report (FIR) has been submitted to the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Pernem, and other relevant authorities.
The investigation is currently being handled by PSI Sagar Vazarkar of Mopa Airport Police Station.
