Local representatives and community leaders present included Swapnil Chodankar, Sonia Pednekar, Reshma Bandodkar, Sandeep Salgaonkar and Amit Asnodkar, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte highlighted the importance of preserving and celebrating Goa’s cultural identity. He said that this year Shigmotsav was celebrated in a grand way in Saligao and Porvorim, allowing people to come together and participate in the festivities.
He noted that last year the celebrations were held differently due to ongoing flyover works and community sentiments, but with the completion of the new lane and service road, the festivities could now be celebrated together with the people. While keeping traffic considerations in mind and excluding floats this year, traditional elements such as Romtamel and fancy dress performances were continued to showcase Goa’s culture and heritage.
Khaunte further said that such celebrations inspire younger generations to carry forward the state’s traditions. He added that under the vision of Pramod Sawant and through the Goa Beyond Beaches initiative, efforts will continue to promote Goa’s authentic culture to both domestic and international tourists.
Director of Tourism Kedar Naik said Shigmotsav is an integral part of Goa’s cultural fabric and events like these strengthen community spirit while allowing visitors to experience the state’s authentic traditions.
The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from cultural groups and residents, with traditional performances transforming Porvorim into a vibrant cultural hub for the evening. Tourists also attended the event, experiencing Goa’s rich heritage beyond its beaches.
Shigmotsav celebrations will continue across various locations in Goa in the coming days with vibrant parades, cultural performances and community festivities.
