ALDONA: Several areas in the Aldona constituency, including Moira, Bastora, and parts of Corjuém, experienced power failures on Wednesday following extreme heavy showers accompanied by high-speed winds.
In Nachinola, a large branch of a mango tree came crashing down onto low-tension (LT) electricity lines near the S Tomé restaurant on the main Aldona road, snapping cables and disrupting power supply. Fire Brigade personnel responded promptly, removing the fallen branches. Electricity Department staff led by Junior Engineer Ashlesh remained on standby to reconnect the damaged lines and restore supply to affected households.
Street lighting failures were also reported in some locations.
Local MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira said that electricity department teams have been working non-stop to address the outages. “Me and my team are closely monitoring the situation,” Ferreira stated.
Meanwhile, reports have emerged of houses collapsing in other parts of Goa due to what authorities described as “cyclonic rain.”
Ferreira urged residents to exercise caution while commuting. “Request all to please drive slowly wherever you may be. Some hidden dangers may not be noticed in this kind of weather, which may result in a tragedy, even if it is your daily route. Take nothing for granted,” he cautioned.
Photographs shared by Ferreira showed the fallen tree branch at Nachinola being cleared by emergency crews.
