PANAJI: In a significant development, the District Registrar (South) and Inspector General of Societies, Suraj Vernekar, has issued an interim order restraining Prakash Velip from functioning as the President of the United Tribal Association Alliance (UTAA) and from managing the association’s finances.
Velip, who has been at the helm of UTAA since 2007, has been temporarily barred from exercising any administrative authority or financial control over the organization. The directive, issued in the backdrop of ongoing internal disputes, aims to uphold transparency and ensure proper functioning of the association while an inquiry is underway.
While the specific reasons behind the order were not officially disclosed, the move comes amid concerns over leadership and financial accountability within UTAA. The association’s next elections are scheduled for September 2025, and the interim restraint is seen as a step to safeguard the organization’s interests until then.
In response to the order, UTAA is expected to convene internal meetings to determine interim arrangements for leadership and financial oversight during the period of Velip’s restrainment.
