CANACONA: Leading Fire Fighter and Sub-Officer Ulhas Gaonkar from Gaondongrim, serving in the Canacona Fire and Emergency Services, has been selected for this year’s prestigious President’s Medal in recognition of his dedicated and relentless service.
Gaonkar will receive the honour from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant during the Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
Known for his commitment beyond the call of duty, Gaonkar often rushes to attend emergencies even while on leave or off-duty. His exceptional dedication has previously earned him honours from the Fire Department Secretary, Canacona Patrakar Sangh, Adarsh Yuva Sangh (Gaondongrim–Khotigao), Pahat, Safe India, and the Chief Minister’s Medal.
Reacting to the announcement, Gaonkar said, “Government has appointed us to serve the people, so it is my nature to work honestly without expecting anything in return. If we do good work, our work itself creates our identity. That work and that identity define us.”
