PANAJI: In response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa Police have launched extensive security operations across both North and South Goa, detaining and verifying thousands of individuals in an effort to bolster public safety and prevent potential threats.
As part of Monday’s crackdown, North Goa police rounded up 556 individuals for verification, with 15 arrests made under preventive measures. The police also verified the credentials of 1,129 tenants and 431 domestic workers, and filled stranger verification forms for 40 unidentified persons.
Widespread combing operations were carried out in various locations including St Inez, Chimbel, Bambolim, Mapusa market, Starco junction in Anjuna, Durga Nagar in Colvale, Malpem railway station, Arambol, the Mopa Airport labour colony, Shemeche Alvan Nagzar, Socorro, Pilerne, Candolim, Tabrawado, Belavistawado-Sangolda, Bhamai Pali, Bordem-Bicholim, Mayem, Sankhali, Ansolem and Nanus in Valpoi.
From last Friday to Sunday, North Goa authorities had already verified 9,891 tenants and house helps, completed 345 stranger roll entries, rounded up 906 individuals, and arrested 78 under preventive sections.
Simultaneously, South Goa police conducted similar drives, verifying 638 tenants, 39 domestic staff, and 2 strangers. They rounded up 122 people for verification and arrested 9 as a preventive measure. Security checks were also conducted at 36 hotels and guesthouses, where 48 foreigners and 5 individuals from Kashmir were verified.
Police officials confirmed that these intensified security efforts will continue in the coming days as part of an ongoing strategy to detect unlawful activities, ensure public safety, and maintain law and order across the state.
