CANACONA: Priyanka Pavitra Velip is elected unopposed as the new sarpanch of Khola panchayat on Friday.
Smt Velip is the third Sarpanch to be elected unopposed to the post of Sarpanch of Khola in the current term of the panchayat tenure.
Presiding Officer Canacona BDO Extension Officer Pradeep Gaude in the presence of Panchayat Secretary Secretary Damodar Kankonkar declared Priyanka Pavitra Velip elected unopposed after following all the official formalities as Velip’s only nomination was received for the post of Sarpanch, fallen vacant after the incumbent Sarpanch Krishna Velip as agreed previously submitted his resignation a fortnight ago.
Out-going sarpanch Krishna Velip, Dy. Sarpanch Tejal Pagui, Panch members Pandhari Prabhudesai, Krupesh Velip, Priyanka Prasad Velip, Ajay Pagi and Pradnya Kamat were present, while a lone panch Prabhakar Vaiz was not present for the special meeting.
Soon after the elections, all the eight panch members of the ruling group visited ex-Dy. Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, who is also BJP State Vice-President at his residence to seek his blessings and cooperation to run the panchayat.
Kavlekar, reportedly assured all the cooperation and assistance to bring developments in Khola village.
It may be recalled that soon after panchayat elections, except for two elected pancha’s have alleged their allegiance to BJP, and Ajay Pagui is elected as the first sarpanch of the tenure. The post of sarpanch was then rotated to Krishna Velip, an ex-ZP(Khola) member, who as per the agreement within the ruling dispensation resigned a fortnight ago to make way for Priyanka Pavitra Velip.
The post of Dy. Sarpanch was also rotated and then Dy. Sarpanch Pandhari Prabhudessai resigned and Tejal Pagui (wife of first Sarpanch-Ajay Pagui) was made dy. Sarpanch (current).
