PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the state government has initiated the process of preparing Master Plans for the 13 Municipalities of the state.
CM Sawant was speaking at the inaugural event of the 100 Smart Cities CEO’s Conference on Data & Technology, organized by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry.
“The state government has initiated the process of preparing Master Plans for the 13 Municipalities of the state. 62% of the Goan population staying in Urban cities as per last census as against the national average of 30 %,” said CM Sawant.
He further said that his government has initiated a GIS-based detailed survey of urban local bodies in a bid to put an end to the revenue leakage.
“Goa government has initiated GIS based detailed survey of urban local bodies(ULB) will help plug revenue leakage. This detailed survey will help enable the administration of these bodies to assess tax efficiently and track unauthorized structures,” said Sawant.
He further said that all structures will come under tax ambit and revenue leakages will be plugged while stating that Rs 930 crore has been allotted by the centre for Panaji Smart City mission.
“60% work of the flood mitigation plan of Panaji Smart City comprising of pumping Station at Mala and rejuvenation of St Inez creek has been completed, he claimed,” he added.
Sawant said that Smart cities need smart people who can effectively point out shortcomings and help bring about further improvement.
When questioned slow pace of ongoing Smart City work and the hardships caused to citizens, CM Sawant said that the Smart City work has been allocated to different agencies.
“Some of these agencies might be slow,” he said.
