The Cabinet Ministers on Wednesday demanded that for urgent promotions of police inspectors to Deputy Superintendents on ad hoc basis to give justice to the Goan policemen.
Ministers said that the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has acceded to the demand and assured to issue instructions accordingly.
Ministers for RDA, Ports and Waste Management Michael Lobo, speaking to reporters, said that the backlog of police inspectors to Deputy superintendents is pending for a long time since 2017.
“Those who had become Police inspectors 10-15 years ago are still lingering at the same post, similarly those who have to be promoted to the post of PI from PSIs are also stuck,” he said.
He said the Goan policemen are doing a great job as COVID warriors and that needs to be appreciated.
“This is the right time to clear the backlog. Right now there are 40 posts of DySPs vacant,” he said.
Asked why the promotions are delayed, he said, there is some faulty policy of 60-40 ratio.
“We appealed to CM to give adhoc promotions for now and then come out with a policy on recruitments,” he said.
He said that otherwise it will be injustice to Goan policemen, as many would retire as police inspectors only.
“If there is direct recruitment the PI’s will never grow. Right now file has been moved for six persons but we have asked him to do it now otherwise recruitment will take 2 years,” he said.
Lobo said the CM has agreed for promotions and also policy.
Speaking on the mobile towers, Lobo said that everybody has mobiles in Goa but nobody wants towers.
“We need towers now at least considering the problems faced by students due to online classes. I urge people not to oppose towers,” he said.
He said the government has cleared the policy that does not mean panchayat NOC will be required.
