MARGAO: “The harvest season has commenced in Fatorda with 250 local farmer families availing the free harvester provided by We for Fatorda, an NGO set up by local MLA Vijai Sardesai. This year marks the 18th consecutive year that We for Fatorda has provided free harvesting support,” said Vijai Sardesai.
“We for Fatorda help farmers access modern machinery, which requires huge capital investment for purchase and maintenance, ” said Sardesai. Our objective is to free farmers from taking on debt by purchasing this modern machinery. As a result, they can reap higher profits from their yield,” said Vijai.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that “We for Fatorda provides this harvesting service free of cost to the farmers and we consider it as our annual tradition for the last 18 years said Sardesai.
In recent times, farmers have seen some candidates wake up before elections and rush to provide agricultural machinery to the farmers. After facing defeat, they go into a 4-year hibernation only to wake up once again before the next election and repeat the cycle, said Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai.
Sardesai said that Goa has the potential to achieve tremendous growth in agriculture. This can only be realised through the commitment and collaboration of farmers, NGOs and government departments. In Fatorda, We for Fatorda will continue to support our farmers by upgrading agricultural equipment and providing them with the latest available technology, said Vijai.
