PANAJI: Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) an apex organization for Groundwater management under Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India in association with Srinivassa Sinai Dempo College, Bambolim has organized one day public interactive programme on “Ground Water Conservation and Groundwater Management” on 11-3-2025 at the college auditorium recently.
The public interactive programme was inaugurated by Sri N. Jyothi Kumar, Regional Director, CGWB, South Western region, Bangalore along with Smt. Sangita P. Bhattacharjee, Scientist-D and Officer in Charge, CGWB, State Unit Office, Belagavi. The chief guest for the program was Prof (Dr). Sangeeta Chakrabarty, Vice Principal, S.S. Dempo College and the Guest of Honour was Dr. Racheal Chacko, Assistant Professor, Environmental Studies, S.S. Dempo College. The main purpose was to create awareness about conservation and management issues of groundwater among student community.
Sri N. Kumar, Regional Director, CGWB, South Western region, Bangalore emphasized the importance of youth’s role in the society for creating a conducive environment to spread important message for groundwater conservation.
Prof (Dr). Sangeeta Chakrabarty, Vice Principal in her inaugural address, highlighted the college role in creating awareness on aspects related to water conservation. She lauded the efforts of Central Groundwater Board, Government of India, and Ministry of Jal Shakti for organizing the programme.
Technical lectures were delivered by distinguished scientists of CGWB namely- Sangita P. Bhattacharjee, Scientist-D, Sri Rahul.R. Shende, Scientist -D, and Shri. Sushant S. Navarat, Assistant Hydrogeologist on various topics like basics of hydrogeology and groundwater scenario of Goa, Activities of CGWB and Artificial recharge and rainwater harvesting for goundwater conservation for better management and sustainability.
