PANAJI: The Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa Police arrested a 28-year-old man from Pune for allegedly possessing methamphetamine valued at ₹6.82 lakh during a raid conducted in Chopdem.
The accused, identified as Krushna Sonkellu from Dapodi, Pune, was found in possession of 45.5 grams of the synthetic drug. Police said he had arrived in Goa a day earlier with the intent to distribute drugs among weekend party crowds.
According to the ANC, Sonkellu had been under surveillance for three days, tracked through both human intelligence and technical inputs. He had checked into a guesthouse in Arambol and was closely monitored. Acting on a tip-off that he would be heading to Chopdem to sell the drugs, ANC officials laid a trap and apprehended him with the contraband.
Initial interrogation revealed that Sonkellu sourced the methamphetamine from Mumbai and transported it to Goa via Pune. The operation was carried out by PI Sajith Pillai, assisted by constables Godish Goltekar, Sanjay Gaonkar, Sairaj Naik, Vishal Shitole, and Lady Constable Jyoti Naik. The raid was supervised by DySP Narcotics Nelson Albuquerque, under the overall guidance of SP ANC Sunita Sawant.
The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Pernem, and has been remanded to five days in police custody.
