New Delhi: Punjab Police have uncovered a major plot to carry out a grenade attack in a crowded area of the state, leading to the arrest of ten individuals linked to a network allegedly backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence. The operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, uncovered a chain of local facilitators and foreign handlers working together to trigger unrest.
According to the police, three of the key accused, identified as Kuldeep Singh, Shekhar Singh and Ajay Singh from Sri Muktsar Sahib, were initially booked following credible leads. Their interrogation revealed deeper connections to foreign handlers and operatives based abroad. Investigators brought seven additional individuals on production warrants from different jails for their alleged roles in transporting and facilitating the delivery of the explosive device.
A Chinese-made hand grenade was recovered, marking a significant breakthrough in establishing the operational intent of the group. Early findings indicate that the accused were in constant communication with Pakistan-based handlers who directed them through three operatives stationed in Malaysia. These intermediaries were reportedly responsible for coordinating the logistics of moving the grenade into Punjab.
Further inquiry pointed to three Malaysia-based individuals who acted as key masterminds and maintained contact with local couriers previously associated with illicit activities, including drug trafficking. Their links helped authorities map out the flow of communication and resources used to set up the attempted strike.
The investigation also exposed a wider local network involving several accused who allegedly helped facilitate the movement and delivery of the grenade within the state. Their roles ranged from acting as conduits to providing logistical support to ensure the device reached its intended location.
Punjab Police have invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the case. Authorities have also issued Red Corner Notices against the foreign-based operatives believed to be directing the plot from abroad. Efforts are underway to trace the full chain of command, financial support structures and potential targets as the investigation advances.
