PANAJI: The Kala Academy was once again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons as a performance of the Marathi play “Purush” was interrupted due to a technical glitch with the stage lighting. The critically acclaimed play, featuring actor Sharad Ponkshe, was halted midway, frustrating both the performers and the audience.
Ponkshe, known for his professionalism, addressed the audience and apologized for the inconvenience. He explained the issue with the lighting system and requested patience, informing the crowd that the performance would be paused for ten minutes to resolve the problem. The audience, showing remarkable understanding, accepted the delay, and the play resumed shortly after with the issue resolved.
Despite the smooth continuation of the performance, the disruption has once again raised concerns about the state of infrastructure at the newly renovated Kala Academy. Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao criticized the repeated technical failures, which have plagued the academy since its refurbishment. “It is disheartening to see the Marathi play ‘Purush’ at Kala Academy being halted due to yet another technical glitch. Goan artistes have repeatedly raised concerns about faulty infrastructure and errors after the academy’s refurbishment/renovation, seemingly falling on deaf ears,” Alemao said.
The incident has sparked renewed frustration among local artists, who have long complained about the technical shortcomings of the Kala Academy, which was supposed to provide a state-of-the-art facility after its renovation.
