BAINA: Ward councillor Shraddha Amonkar conducted a joint inspection with Public Works Department (PWD) officials at Baina after several women complained of severe water scarcity in the area ahead of Diwali.
During the inspection, PWD officials assured that the issue would be resolved by connecting the existing old water pipeline to a new one and further proposed the installation of a new pipeline as a permanent solution to the recurring problem.
Resident Suvarna Nayak said the issue had persisted for over a year despite repeated complaints to the authorities. “We get water only around 3 am and have to stay awake all night to fill a few buckets due to the low pressure. Our family members take turns to collect water, and this has affected our health. We are frustrated, especially with Diwali approaching, as we cannot manage without water,” Nayak said.
Councillor Shraddha Amonkar said that she had received several complaints from women in the locality and had immediately called for an on-site inspection to understand the gravity of the problem. “The PWD officials have assured immediate works to improve water supply. I have also proposed the installation of a new pipeline to permanently resolve the issue,” Amonkar stated.
PWD officials explained that a shutdown at the Seraulim water reservoir had affected supply to Baina. “We will begin the improvement works by October 23 and connect the existing pipeline to a new one near Shafi Masjid to restore regular water flow. The current lines are decades old, so a new pipeline has also been proposed as a long-term solution,” said a PWD official.
