PANAJI: Minister For Waste Management and Calangute MLA Micheal Lobo today has said that the Public Works Department (PWD) has been facing huge staff cruch while demanding that posts be filled soon.
Micheal Lobo along with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today held a review meeting along with PWD officals from across Goa.
“Today there is a massive staff shortage and crunch at PWD across Goa and this vacancies should be filled up soon as a part of the job promises,” said Lobo
He further said that PWD has been falling short of Junior Engineers, supervisors ,helpers and other related staff.
“As a part of job promise the state governemnt should rope in private plumbers, supervisors, and other allied staff required in PWD as it will help in solving major problems related to crises,” he added
Lobo further said that the people of Goa had been facing huge scarcity of water specially is Bardez and sattari.
“CM has asked for a review of water shortage across Goa to all the Assistant Engineers. Nearly there is a shortage of nearly 27 MLD in Bardez area. As per teh survey 90 MLD is needed but Bardez receives around 66 MLD treated water from Assnora plant,” Lobo added
Lobo informed that the new plant at Porvorim is nearing completion and plant has capacity of 15 MLD.
He further said that CM Sawant has directed the PWD officials to take temporary measures to increase the production of portable water.
“We are still relying on the years old Assonora plant and the pipeline which was designed in late 80s when the requirement was less. Demand is increased but the supply is limited. Work of the 15 MLT plant at Porvorim is underway and will be processed further once the government releases funds to the contractor. The Tilari pipeline has already come up in Calangute and the process of 15 MLT tank with filtration is under progress, Lobo added.
