Mapusa: Minister for Tourism, Revenue and IT Rohan Khaunte said the State government is prioritising responsible and regenerative tourism to ensure sustainable growth while protecting Goa’s culture, environment and local communities.
Khaunte said Goa is not merely aiming to increase tourist footfall but is focused on attracting quality tourists.
“Tourist arrivals have increased in the post-Covid period, but our emphasis is on responsible tourism. We want tourism growth that benefits local communities and preserves Goa’s unique identity,” the Minister said, highlighting ongoing reforms in tourism policies.
He said Goa has taken steady steps towards becoming Swayampurna under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, with welfare schemes reaching the grassroots. Referring to the Mhaje Ghar scheme, Khaunte said it provides security and dignity to citizens through land ownership.
The Minister also said the government is supporting the farming community through initiatives such as organic farming and water conservation, while upcoming schemes like Viksit Bharat Gramin Yojgar aim to create employment opportunities, especially in rural areas.
Khaunte reiterated that tourism development in Goa will be guided by sustainability, quality infrastructure and community participation, aligning with the broader vision of self-reliant India.
