QUEPEM: Quepem Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act against a 22-year-old man for illegal possession of suspected ganja at Xeldem.
According to police, the operation was conducted on March 24 between 2:39 am and 4:11 am at Nirmal Nagar, Xeldem, Quepem. A police team led by PSI Digamber Bondre apprehended the accused who was found in possession of 297 grams of greenish leafy substance with flowering and fruiting tops suspected to be ganja, valued at approximately ₹30,000.
During the operation, police also attached ₹20,000 in cash, a mobile phone, and a Fascino scooter. The total value of seized items is estimated at around ₹1.5 lakh. The seizure was carried out under a proper panchanama.
The accused has been identified as Zakir Pirzade (22), a resident of Cotta, Amona, Quepem. Quepem Police registered Crime No. 15/2026 under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act.
He was produced before the JMFC, Quepem, which remanded him to three days of police custody. Police said the accused is being interrogated to ascertain the source of procurement and to trace backward and forward linkages.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Digamber Bondre under the supervision of PI Prashal Dessai, SDPO Quepem Ashish Shirodkar, and SP South Santosh Dessai.
